Finding the right fit for South Asian occasion wear is slightly different from shopping on the UK high street. Many pieces are custom-tailored or uniquely structured, so it’s worth taking a few extra steps before you book.

ToggleAll listings on ViyahVogue include a UK size as a general guide. However, traditional South Asian garments don’t always follow standard UK sizing – a UK 12 in a bespoke lehenga can fit very differently to a UK 12 from a high street brand.
Always look at the full measurements listed on the outfit rather than relying on the size label alone. Check the bust, waist and hip measurements in the listing and compare them to your own.
The drawstring advantage. Many lehengas feature a drawstring waistband – known as a naala – which gives useful flexibility at the waist. Check the listing description to see whether the skirt has this, as it can make the difference between a piece fitting or not.
The length of an outfit is often the most important measurement, particularly if the lender has had it hemmed.
Use a flexible tape measure and keep it level when measuring. Take your measurements over fitted clothing or underwear rather than bulky layers.
Key measurements to take:
If you’re between sizes, message the lender to ask whether the fabric has any give or whether there are hidden seam margins that allow for adjustment.
You can message lenders directly through the platform with any questions about fit or measurements.
Try-ons can be arranged directly between you and the lender at both parties’ discretion. If you have any concerns about fit, this is the best way to be certain before committing to a booking. If you don’t arrange a try-on and the outfit doesn’t fit at collection, this is treated as a late cancellation – see our Disputes and Cancellations guide for more detail.
If you find a lender whose build and style match yours, follow their profile. You’ll be able to see their new listings as they go live, making it easier to find pieces you can be confident will fit.
